About the Practice
Opened in 1982 , Skyway Dental Clinic is a comprehensive and caring dental home for families and working professionals in and around the Downtown and the North Loop neighborhoods of Minneapolis.
The practice was established by Dr. Frederick Schilling who served this community for over 40 years. In 2017, Dr. Maggie Thompson joined the practice and took over ownership in 2021.
We are proud to be part of the large and bustling downtown community but their approach to dentistry features more personal touch. We believe spending focused, one-on-one time with our patients is important for fostering strong patient-provider relationships. We are committed to patient education and our goal is to empower each person who comes through the door to be active, informed participants in decisions regarding their dental health care.
From routine dental cleanings and regular oral health care visits to advanced dental procedures, oral cancer screenings, and reconstructive dental surgery, the team at Skyway Dental Clinic can help detect and treat all your dental concerns. Call or book an appointment online today to learn more. We look forward to meeting you!

Fred Schilling, DDS
Dr. Schilling has been practicing dentistry for over 40 years. His philosophy on dentistry springs from the Latin meaning of doctor, which is teacher. Dr. Schilling believes in helping his patients understand how to achieve and keep a great smile, with the best treatment possible. He also believes that in every good dentist is an artist ready to create beauty on a canvas of a different type. Dr. Schilling practices painless dentistry using state-of-the-art tools and procedures.
Dr. Schilling’s interest in dentistry began in 1975 during his last year in the US Army, where he was stationed in Germany. He worked on base at the dental clinic and soon realized he had found his future career. Dr. Schilling graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry as a member of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society and opened Skyway Dental Clinic in 1982.
Dr. Schilling is a member of the American Dental Association, the Minnesota Dental Association, the Downtown Seattle Study Club, and in 2010 he became a Diplomate of the Academy of Clinical Sleep Disorder Disciplines to diagnose and provide care for patients with Sleep Apnea.
In his free time, Dr. Schilling enjoys spending time with his family at their cabin up north, oil painting, landscaping, and wood carving.
“Seeing the positive influence I can have with my patients is what drives my passion for my profession and my passion for dentistry grows deeper every year.”
