Emergency Dentistry

There's nothing quite like a dental emergency to disrupt your busy workday. Whether it’s a broken tooth during a quick lunch between meetings or a throbbing toothache as you prepare for a presentation, dental emergencies can strike at the most inconvenient times.

At Skyway Dental Clinic, we understand the urgency and anxiety associated with these situations. Our doors are open to provide the swift, compassionate care you need to return to your life with minimal disruption. Call us now at (612) 338-4122 to get the urgent relief you need.

Recognizing Dental Emergencies

Knowing what constitutes a dental emergency can help you take swift action. Here are scenarios that should have you reaching for the phone:

  • Severe toothache signaling deep decay or infection
  • Lost or damaged crowns or fillings, leaving your tooth vulnerable
  • Chipped or broken teeth that may damage soft tissues or cause pain
  • A knocked-out or partially dislodged tooth which requires immediate attention

If you encounter any of these emergencies, contact Skyway Dental immediately. Delaying treatment can often lead to more complex issues and prolonged discomfort.

First-Aid for Dental Emergencies: What You Can Do

While these tips provide temporary relief, they are not a substitute for professional care. In case of an emergency, here's how to manage the situation until you see us:

  • Toothache — Rinse with warm water and gently use dental floss to remove any lodged food particles.
  • Lost Crown or Filling — Protect the area by applying a small amount of dental cement at drugstores.
  • Broken Tooth — Rinse your mouth with warm water and apply a cold compress to the cheek to reduce swelling.
  • Knocked-Out Tooth — Do not touch the tooth's root, handling the tooth by the crown only. If dirty, rinse without scrubbing, and try to place it back in the socket or a container of milk or saliva.

Proactive Measures to Avoid Dental Emergencies

While we can't help you avoid every dental emergency, we can provide tips on being proactive with your care and taking preventive measures:

Regular Dental Checkups

Routine dental exams and teeth cleanings allow us to detect problems early and provide prompt treatment.

Protective Mouthguards

If you participate in sports or activities that involve contact with the face, a custom mouthguard can prevent tooth fractures and avulsions.

Mindful Eating Habits

Steer clear of hard candies, ice, and other substances that can crack or chip your teeth. Be cautious when eating foods that contain bones or pits.

Oral Hygiene

Effective brushing and flossing can prevent plaque buildup, leading to dental decay and the potential for abscesses requiring urgent care.

Avoiding Harmful Habits

Nail-biting, pen-chewing, and using your teeth as tools can put unnecessary stress on your teeth, leading to chips or breaks.

There was no pain and there was laughter in the process.

I was nervous to have a tooth removed today but there was no pain and there was laughter in the process. I appreciated that. I want to thank Dr. Katira and Ms. Diane for making what was nerve racking to me very comfortable. Thank you.
